CRM 2013 : "The organization database selected for import is a different version than the organization database that is currently deployed"

While importing 2011 organization (database) into 2013 server using CRM Deployment Manager 'Import Organization' wizard, it is common that we receive warning message  "The organization database selected for import is a different version than the organization database that is currently deployed".

But to my surprise, while I was trying to import an already existing CRM 2013 organization (database) of same server as a new one using CRM Deployment Manager 'Import Organization', it got the same warning.

Not sure what makes CRM to identify it as different version :) Reported it to product team, hope it will be addressed.

Update [02-Dec-2013]: Recently one of my good friend received the same message 'The organization database selected for import is a different version than the organization database that is currently deployed' as error rather then warning. While we had a deeper look we found that CRM 2011 database version was not compatible for upgrade.

i.e. the UR applied in the CRM 2011 environment was not compatible for CRM 2013 upgrade.

You can only upgrade organizations that have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Update Rollup 6 or at least CRM 2011 Update Rollup 14. Upgrade rollups earlier than version 6 and Upgrade Rollups 7 through 13 aren't supported for upgrade.

    1. Hi RaveePandian

This issue was reported in connect and it is fixed. Hope it will be available in the next roll-up\patch.

As anyway its a warning message and not a blocker from Importing Organization and also nothing to fix from our end.

      Hope this info helps.

      Thanks & Regards
      Vinoth

    2. Hi RaveePandian

In-case you are getting an error message 'The organization database selected for import is a different version than the organization database that is currently deployed' rather than a warning message, then you may need to check the UR version installed in CRM 2011 organization.

You can only upgrade organizations that have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Update Rollup 6 or at least CRM 2011 Update Rollup 14.

      Thanks & regards

  4. Hi,
i have installed Microsoft Dynamic CRM 2013 successful. but when i am trying to add a new user it stated that a security role need to be assigned with that. so while creating a user and security role issue started.

when i am trying to login with administrator or any other user credentials it stats the fallowing error...

    An error has occurred.

Try this action again. If the problem continues, check the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Community for solutions or contact your organization's Microsoft Dynamics CRM Administrator. Finally, you can contact Microsoft Support

so the above stated is the error. so when i googled it i couple of solutions:

    1. try to install a windows software development kit windows SDK for windows 7 & frame work 4.0 when i have tried that fallowing error displayed :

    status :
windows is now installing Windows SDK components. ( its been showing the same installation message from more than an hour but work is not done).

    2. Repair MS CRM setup but while doing that the error :

source Loaction : the MSI Package was not found at the specified location.

searched online could not find the MSI package location.

so if possible help me out.

    1. Hi Sarat

The error that you mentioned is a very generic one. Can you please enable the trace and get more detailed error? Please refer the link (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907490) that will tell you in detail how to enable trace.

Alternately you can use this tool (http://mscrmtools.blogspot.com/2013/09/new-tool-trace-reader-for-microsoft.html) to gather trace information.

Once you share the trace file information, we will be able to nail down the issue.

      Thanks & Regards
      Vinoth
